Meet the Maker

 I am Sherrie the maker and designer of these unique headscarves and wellness products, which are lovingly created from my own artwork. 

For as long as I can remember, I have loved art, fashion and being creative. I once had a dream to become a footwear designer, but I left that dream behind when I emigrated to Australia from the UK and embarked on a 15-year long corporate journey. This journey gave me the wonderful opportunity to visit many places across this beautiful country; Australia is not just where I live, Australia is my home and where I draw most of my inspiration from!

Rewind to 2020, when the world as we knew it changed: travel was much changed, and along with it my perspective and attitude towards life. I was studying for my Master of Business Administration and with all the research, questions and curiosity, I started to appreciate the simple things in life more than ever. My creative juices started flowing again and I had the urge to grow things, and furthermore, I wanted to grow as a person. So, I became an avid gardener and in doing so, decided I wanted to live more sustainably; to create things that lasted and with less waste; to embrace slow fashion and to live more organically, and naturally (head over to the sustainability page to learn more about what we do at S.M.D). 

After completing my MBA, I created a small luxury sustainable grazing business, and this is where my passion for creating a piece of art was reignited! The thing I love most about each grazing box I create is its’ uniqueness, which is sumptuously arranged with the right amount of flair, and dashing’s of enthusiasm, whilst simultaneously celebrating fresh and local produce from other small independent businesses. More recently I was faced with a situation where standing up for my rights cost me my 'income' and my corporate job. With this, I realised that I was redirected, not rejected, which gave me the chance of a new beginning; an opportunity to forge a new path and make MY dreams come true, rather than helping someone else achieve theirs!

This is where S.M.D makes an appearance. I have collected quirky accessories for years, in particular, large square scarves and turned them into headscarves with bows or knots. When I wear a headscarf, I feel empowered, unique and ultimately 'ME'. Friends, family, colleagues and strangers, often pay me compliments and I'm pretty sure a 'cat ears' headband even scored me my last job! What a boost of encouragement! Furthermore, I create eye pillows and heat packs again these consist of my artwork, a removable cover (this was I found to be missing with other brands), the internal pillow case is made from up-cycled cotton and all the internal materials are locally sourced and natural making the items fully compostable at the end of their life. 

I hope to increase YOUR happiness, YOUR smiles and YOUR positivity through my unique and bespoke designs.
